The American Hostdime entrusted Klimatix with the installation of the refrigeration equipment for its new data center and, thanks to the reliability of the product, obtained Tier III certification

Hostdime is an American company specialized in locating data centers. It is present in seven countries and offers the market solutions such as dedicated servers, cloud server, cloud backup and colocation .
In Brazil, the company built a data center in the city of João Pessoa (PB), where it provides colocation services , serving large companies such as banks, among others.

Colocation is a type of solution in the data center segment, in which the provider offers all the infrastructure; power, cooling, data network and computing, and the customer just installs the server.

The Hostdime facility in João Pessoa is Tier III certified. All data centers have a level of reliability for their operation. Tier III is granted by the internationally recognized Uptime Institute , and has one of the most rigorous reliability levels, with a rate of 99.98%. This means that, per year, the downtime of a data center is 1.6 hours.

The efficiency and precision of the refrigeration system installed by the Klimatix contributed to the Tier II certification.

The scope of supplying the Klimatix for the Hostdime included:

  • CPCS precision fan coils, with a cooling capacity of 80 TR each (CPCS-280 model) and 12 TR each (CPCS-50 model).
  • A relative humidity (UR) and air superheat control system, downflow air supply for CPCS-280 models and frontal air supply for CPCS-50 models, fans with automatic rotation control (EC), PLC with remote communication via Modbus , point sensors for liquid detection to warn of possible water losses in air conditioners and precision and class G4 air filters.
  • Four RLA-330 Chillers , with a cooling capacity of 114 TR each and hermetic scroll -type compressors with high energy efficiency.
  • Microchannel condensers with additional E – coating treatment and evaporative cooling system .
  • Additional acoustic insulation of the compressors and noise attenuators installed in the discharge of the fans, preparation of the PLC for operation with no break and power supply of the centrifugal pumps installed in the equipment by the customer’s UPS .
  • Hydraulic interconnection between the RLA-330 Chillers and the CPCS-280 and CPCS-50 model Precision Air Conditioners.

Challenge

The challenge of the project was to install and leave in operation the CPCs of the data center rooms. The floor of the rooms has an elevation of 800 mm and the refrigeration equipment was placed below the floor.

The hot air is sucked in from the rooms, cooled by the chilled water system of the chillers positioned on the terrace of the building, and blown, from the bottom up, by the precision fan coils placed below the floor.

This type of installation guarantees more efficiency in the system, with better ventilation and distribution of cold air throughout the rooms.

In the nobreak room, smaller fan coils were installed and the cold air discharge is from the front, from the front of the machines.
